Casaljay to defend bike crown in DDN
DAVAO City's Ruel Casaljay is out to defend his title when the 38th Araw ng Davao del Norte 4th Banakon Trail Mountain Bike Challenge unreels on Sunday in in Tagum City.
Tagum City Biking Gladiators president Thadeus Boiser on Thursday said that at this early Casaljay is keeping himself busy studying the route.
"I think he's there in Tagum earlier familiarizing the route along with other riders," Boiser said.
Boiser said Casaljay and fellow Mindanao Games gold medalist Hilario Ladra are again expected to renew their rivalry in the open expert division.
The two riders are competing under the banner of the Davao Pobre Bikers Association along with teammate Glen Yap.
"We expect some 350 to 400 participants from the neighboring cities and provinces of Tagum including entries from Surigao, General Santos, Bukidnon and Cagayan de Oro," Boiser said.
The open expert champ will receive P6,000 while the second place is assured P4,000. The third finisher will get P2,000.
The fun ride category will give away P1,000 each to the top 10 finishers and P500 each to the next 100. The top riders will also receive medals.
Other special awards will be presented to the heaviest, oldest, father and son, youngest and biggest delegation. (MLS)
